I participated in Field Day this year with the Story County Amateur Radio Club and Cyclone Amateur Radio Club. Thiings went well. We had two stations: one at the American Red Cross and one at City Hall. We also had a GOTA (Get On The Air) station that was used to allow non-amateur-radio people to get on HF (that’s shortwave or world band, in other parlance) and talk to other stations across the country. We had several visitors to our GOTA station, and I’m told we had several hundred contacts overall. This year, we used a souped-up version of 802.11b to network the two main stations together for syncronized logging and inter-station messaging. Very cool stuff.
