My Take on the Iowa Secularists’ Conference

As I sit here, wearing my iowasecularist.org t-shirt, I would like to say I had so much fun meeting like-minded people at last weekend’s conference. While the Dan Barker keynote was awesome, I think that Brian Sable’s presentation on political involvement will be most useful to me. For me, the take-away was that our communications with our representatives should be short, sweet and to-the-point, and that letters to the editor really can get the attention of our legislators, at least on the state and federal levels.

If you are an atheist, agnostic, skeptic or freethinker in Iowa, this conference is for you! As I understand it, there will be a conference next year, based on the turnout and positive feedback from this year’s conference, so keep an eye on the Iowa Secularists web site for more information.

Finally, I want to recommend Dan Barker’s book, “Losing Faith in Faith“, available from the Freedom From Religion Foundation. It includes his story about his deconversion from Christianity, and lots of information regarding the falsity of the Christian religion (or at least parts of it).
